Raven Deployment Controller

New postby bayourat » Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:42 pm

Got my new Raven flight computer today. It's not much bigger then a postage stamp. It has dual axes acelerometers and a barometric altemeter. It's good to 70G's and 100,000'.

I got to get me one of those. You gonna test it in those three rockets you have been working on?

No, They aren't designed for a payload. The second generation will. But that's after I decide on a fin design from the testing I'll be doing with these three.

I need to replace the alt. I lost last year in the 3" Patriot disaster. I still haven't rebuilt the upper section of that rocket...

Have you played with it yet? I'm wondering how user friendly it will be compared to the MAWD.

The Raven is the altimeter I am hoping to use in my L2 rocket......WHENEVER that happens. Glad to know someone who will be testing it out first though.

I can only wonder what possibilities lie with the 4 outputs. Could this be a self redundant situation? I'm thinking not as you would want two separate systems for that.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe I read somewhere suggested ideas for using 4 outputs would include airstarts/stage ignitions, dual deploy, AND redundant deploy charges.

I believe the predecessor to this altimeter, the parrot, had 3 outputs. It was usually suggested that the first was for initial drogue ejection, second for main ejection and third for a backup ejection charge set to go off a second after the 2nd charge. Made sense to me, now I just gotta find more change in the couch cushions and I am set.

I flew the Raven in my rocket "Bones" on a Kosdon by Aerotech J520. The Baro Altitude was 4,256' Axel Alt. 4,713' Max Velocity 470 MPH. Here is the graph with Baro and Axel data.
